Starting July 1st, Tesla plans to release their new Premium Connectivity Package for the Model S, Model X, and Model 3 cars. The new Premium Connectivity Package will equip the cars with capabilities such as live traffic data, auto-pilot data, and various streaming services.
In 2012, the Tesla Model S car introduced the idea of a cellular connectivity feature within the cars. Tesla continues to emphasize their Wi-Fi feature because their cars rely on this capability for navigation and to receive software updates.
People who are looking to buy any of Tesla’s cars before July 1st, 2018 will receive the standard Wi-Fi features that already exist, and will never have to pay to maintain the current level of internet connectivity in their cars. These cars will not be impacted by the new Premium Connectivity Package options.
However, people who purchase a Tesla Model S, Model X, or Model 3 car after July 1st will be given the option of buying the Premium Connectivity Package or the Standard Connectivity Package. The main differences between the two packages are the Premium Connectivity Package will include live traffic updates, software updates, and in-car streaming.
